How to add a chatbot
to your website.

Whatever your site is built on, the method is the same: one script tag before the closing </body> tag. Here's the five-minute version for every platform, plus how to choose a bot worth installing.

THE SHORT ANSWER

To add a chatbot to your website, build the bot from your site's URL, then paste its script tag just before the closing body tag of your pages. WordPress users can use a plugin; Wix, Shopify and Squarespace all have embed or code-injection settings. With HyperChat the whole job takes about five minutes and building the bot is free.

01 // The universal method

Five steps. One works
everywhere.

1

Build

Paste your URL into HyperChat. Your bot trains on your real pages in about 60 seconds.

2

Tune

Chat with it free. Adjust greeting, tone and knowledge until it sounds like you.

3

Copy

Go live (£49/mo) and copy your unique one-line embed code.

4

Paste

Drop it before the closing body tag — every platform has a place for it.

5

Test

Ask a real question on your live site and watch the lead land in your inbox.

THE ONE LINE THAT DOES IT
<script src="https://www.hyperchat.uk/api/embed/YOUR-BOT-ID" async></script>

Placed before </body>, it loads after your page content — so the bot never slows your site down. Your real code appears in your portal when you go live.

  2. 2. Easiest: our official plugin — it passed the automated Plugin Check scan and is submitted, awaiting directory review.
  3. 3. Today: install any "insert headers and footers"-style plugin and paste the embed code in its footer box.
  4. 4. Or edit your theme's footer.php and paste before </body>.
Wx

Wix

  1. 1. Open Settings → Custom Code in your Wix dashboard.
  2. 2. Paste the embed code, set it to load on all pages, placement Body — end.
  3. 3. Apply, publish, and the bubble appears. (Custom code needs a premium Wix plan.)
S

Shopify

  1. 1. Go to Online Store → Themes → Edit code.
  2. 2. Open layout/theme.liquid and paste the embed just before </body>.
  3. 3. Save — every page of the shop picks it up, product pages included.
Sq

Squarespace

  1. 1. Open Settings → Advanced → Code Injection.
  2. 2. Paste the embed code into the Footer field.
  3. 3. Save. The bot now appears site-wide, blogs and shops included.

Something bespoke? Any site that serves HTML can run the embed — see integrations for the automation side, or open the integration guide.

What to look for
in a chatbot.

The embed is the easy part. Picking a bot that earns its keep is the decision. Four checks, in order of importance:

What should it cost?

Trained on YOUR content

Generic script-bots answer like a leaflet. A website-trained bot answers like your business — services, prices, policies. Ask any vendor: "where do the answers come from?"

Lead capture with consent

A chatbot that can't capture the enquiry is a novelty. Look for consent wording and a privacy link built into the ask, not bolted on.

Honest pricing

Credit packs, de-branding fees and per-resolution meters turn a £30 tool into a £200 bill. Flat, in pounds, cancellable monthly is what good looks like.

UK GDPR-aware data handling

A public subprocessor register, a retention schedule and clear controller/processor roles. If a vendor can't show you these, walk.

04 // Questions

Installation questions.

Do I need a developer to add a chatbot to my website?
No. Every major platform has a place to paste a script tag: WordPress has plugins and theme editors, Wix has custom embeds, Shopify has theme.liquid, Squarespace has code injection. If you can edit a page on your site, you can install a chatbot — and HyperChat’s UK support will walk you through it.
Where exactly does the chatbot code go?
Just before the closing </body> tag of your site’s HTML. Placing it there lets your pages load fully before the chat widget initialises, so the bot never slows your site down.
Will a chatbot slow my website down?
A well-built widget loads asynchronously after your page content, so it shouldn’t dent your page-speed scores. HyperChat’s embed is a single lightweight script that renders the bubble only once your page has loaded.
Is there a WordPress plugin for HyperChat?
Yes — the HyperChat WordPress plugin passed the automated Plugin Check scan and is submitted, awaiting human directory review. Until it’s listed, the manual embed (one script tag via a code-snippets plugin or your theme footer) takes about two minutes.
What should I look for when choosing a chatbot?
Four things: trained on your content rather than generic scripts; lead capture with proper consent wording; honest pricing (watch for credit packs, de-branding fees and per-resolution meters); and UK GDPR-aware data handling with a public subprocessor list.
Can I add the same chatbot to more than one website?
Each HyperChat Live subscription covers one chatbot, embeddable on the sites that bot serves. Agencies running many client sites use fleet plans from £499/month rather than stretching one bot across unrelated businesses.
How do I know if it’s working?
Your HyperChat portal shows conversations, top questions, captured leads and device trends. Simplest test: ask your three most common customer questions on the live site and check the lead notification arrives.
